Dogs Trust and the Cost of Living

Over recent months, we’ve received a record number of calls from people asking us to take in their dogs in the face of the new cost of everyday living. This coinciding with adoption numbers dropping due to people not being able afford to take on a new dog, is leading to a potential housing crisis for the nation’s dogs.

At Dogs Trust we are doing all we can to help weather the storm and support dogs and their owners through this difficult time.

We’ve been setting up Dog food banks at our rehoming centre for anyone struggling feed their dog(s). For details of where these are based and how to donate, please click here.

Our discounted training and behaviour services are helping people keep up with essential training and behaviour needs. These costs can be seen as additional to basic care; however they are very important to the development and wellbeing of dogs and owners. For information about these discounted services, please click here.

In the wider community, we are calling for the government to help pet owners but taking VAT off pet food. A reduction of this 20% tax would lower the price of food and help people struggling to with the cost of dog food. Read more about our campaign here.

We can only run these services and be the voice of dogs and dogs owners in the UK, with the help of our loyal supporters. Thank you for taking part in the 99K for Canines challenge and raising essential funds for the many dogs around country.

Join our Online Community

If you want to share your challenge with likeminded people, we have a Facebook group for our 99k for Canines walkers. This is a place to share your story with our community, let them know how you are doing with your challenge, tell us about why you are helping Dogs Trust, or simply share photos of your dog with people who love dogs!

We’ll be providing updates throughout the challenge about how your support helps the dogs we care for, as well as tips and ideas for your walking and fundraising. And we’ll be sharing lots of doggy related content to enjoy and get involved with.

To be a part of the group you can join here.

Foster Carers Wanted

As we face the financial crisis, we’re urgently seeking help for the dogs who will feel the impact.

We’re especially searching for people with space in their homes and hearts for dogs that are more difficult to find forever homes for, such as big dogs, un-housetrained dogs, and dogs with challenging behaviour. If you think you can offer a temporary home to a dog in need while the UK is in financial crisis, please get in touch here.

When Sylvie first arrived into Dogs Trust’s care after being found as a stray, she was a shy, timid girl who was quite overwhelmed by the world. Sylvie struggled to cope with life in kennels. So she went to stay with one of our fantatic foster carers. Read how our foster care scheme changed Sylvie's life and helped her find her forever home here.
